Ecological Impact
CIS-TEM CHANGE, NOT CLIMATE CHANGE
Production & Materials
- Wherever possible, BWP uses handmade processes and local suppliers
- BWP produces all goods in small batches
- BWP prints on and ships in recycled, post-consumer wastepaper and unbleached kraft paper
- BWP exclusively uses PLA (polylactic acid), a compostable bioplastic made from the residue of unutilized agricultural products
PLA Bioplastic
PLA (polylactic acid) is a bioplastic derived from sugar, often from corn or beets. PLA is:
- Made from the residue of agricultural products such as stems, husks, straw, and leaves
- Responsible for 80% lower carbon emissions than petroleum-based plastic
- Commercially compostable
UpCycling
BWP rescues once-loved shirts and gives them a new life, helping us avoid contributing to the horrors of the Fast Fashion Industry:
- This industry continues to have a long history of flagrant human rights abuses, including exploiting incarcerated individuals
- FashionChecker estimates that 93% of fashion brands do not pay their workers a living wage
- The Fast Fashion Industry pollutes the air and water with toxic dyes, microplastics, and harmful chemicals
- The UN estimated in 2019 that the Fast Fashion Industry is responsible for 8% to 10% of global carbon emissions
